My breedings are researched & planned to produce wonderful temperaments, good health and soundness; following the AKC breed standards. My goal is for my dogs to accomplish great things. | Is An Akita The Dog For You? So many times I hear people say "I saw one on TV, on the street or my neighbor has one, and I think they are beautiful." An Akita is NOT a dog that you should jump into ownership with on a whim, you should give it much consideration. You should research the breed, talk to breeders and owners. The Akita is a strong, noble, loyal and dominate dog. They have strong guarding instincts and a high prey drive. Although they are loving with the children in their household, they may not be completely trustworthy with visitors, especially children, and should always be supervised or separated around them. They like to be "pack leaders" so an owner of an Akita must be firm and establish strong leadership. They should receive obedience training and be well socialized in the everyday world. Their size can be intimidating ranging from 24 to 28 inches, with weight from 65-115 lbs. On the other hand, they love their families and are protective of them. They are clean dogs and will groom themselves like a cat. They blow their coat twice a year which will turn your home into a furry wonderland. |
